View RecordsRoute Kaufman misdemeanor and felony records to the correct clerk and distinguish a filed court case from police or prosecution records.
Kaufman’s County Clerk holds Class A and B misdemeanor case files. The county’s prosecution-intake guidance directs felony filings to the District Clerk. Use the court and charge classification on the paperwork, not merely the jail booking reference, to identify the file.
| Need | Office or source | Reference to provide |
|---|---|---|
| Class A/B misdemeanor court filing | County Clerk | County-court case number and requested order/document. |
| Felony court filing | District Clerk | District-court case number and requested filing. |
| Incident or arrest narrative | Agency that created the report | Agency report number/date; do not substitute a court-copy request. |
Police prepare arrest paperwork. This does not by itself show a prosecutor accepted charges or a court entered judgment.
Reports are reviewed and additional information may be requested. Ask whether a court case has been filed and what number it received.
Once the relevant clerk holds the filing, use its case reference to locate later orders and the disposition. A charging paper still states an accusation, not the final outcome.
The County Clerk says it does not disclose specific record contents over the telephone. Ask how to submit your request rather than expecting a case narrative by phone.
Provide the filed case number, document name/date and whether certification is required. Ask for a quote and accepted delivery method.
Check that the order concerns the requested case and charge. If only an arrest reference is known, resolve its link to a filed case before relying on a same-name match.
